Project Overview
This project involved a contemporary rear extension and internal renovation to an existing single-storey dwelling, designed to transform a traditional layout into a modern open-plan home focused on indoor–outdoor living. The design introduces improved spatial flow, natural light, and functional family living while maintaining harmony with the original structure.
Modern Rear Extension & Open-Plan Living
The design strategy centred around opening the rear of the home to create a seamless connection between kitchen, dining, living, and outdoor entertaining spaces. A new rear extension accommodates a generous open-plan living zone anchored by a large island kitchen, providing both functionality and social interaction at the heart of the home.
Careful planning allowed the existing structure to be retained and integrated with the new works, improving circulation while maximising usable floor area. Large glazed openings enhance natural light penetration and strengthen the connection to the outdoor alfresco area, creating a cohesive indoor–outdoor lifestyle environment.
The project was delivered as an alterations and additions scheme under a Complying Development pathway.
Refined Interiors & Functional Family Living
Internally, the renovation focused on creating a calm and contemporary material palette with clean architectural detailing throughout. The kitchen and living spaces adopt a restrained design language with neutral finishes, integrated joinery, and durable materials suited to everyday family use.
Bathrooms were reconfigured to improve usability and storage, incorporating modern fixtures, floating vanities, and layered lighting to elevate the overall spatial experience. The inclusion of a covered alfresco with outdoor kitchen further extends the living environment, providing year-round entertaining capability while reinforcing the connection between interior and exterior spaces.
The result is a cohesive home that balances practicality, comfort, and contemporary architectural expression while responding to the lifestyle needs of the occupants.
