Project Overview
A contemporary two-storey residence designed to balance architectural presence with refined material restraint, this home explores strong horizontal forms, layered textures, and a carefully composed entry sequence. The project integrates generous internal living zones with outdoor connections, while the façade composition combines masonry, rendered volumes, vertical battens, and feature stone elements to create depth and visual hierarchy across the street frontage.

Architectural Form & Street Presence
The architectural language is driven by a composition of intersecting rectilinear volumes that establish a strong yet refined street presence. A dominant upper-level form appears to float above the ground floor, creating a sense of weightlessness while simultaneously reinforcing the home’s horizontal proportions. The use of contrasting materials — including light render, darker feature cladding, and vertical timber battens — provides depth and articulation without relying on excessive ornamentation.
The entry sequence is intentionally layered, with recessed elements guiding movement toward the front door and creating a sense of arrival. Integrated lighting within soffits and step detailing enhances the architectural experience during evening conditions, emphasising the geometry and highlighting material transitions. The façade maintains a controlled balance between solid and void, allowing glazing to provide transparency while preserving privacy.
Landscape integration plays a key role in the overall presentation, with terraced planter zones and stone retaining walls softening the built form and reinforcing the architectural composition. The stepped approach from the street to the entry not only addresses level transitions but also establishes a gradual experiential progression from public to private space.
Spatial Planning & Internal Functionality
Internally, the dwelling is organised to support contemporary family living through a sequence of interconnected yet clearly defined spaces. The ground floor accommodates primary living functions, including open-plan kitchen, dining, and family areas that connect directly to outdoor entertaining zones, reinforcing indoor-outdoor continuity. Supporting spaces such as a media room, formal lounge, and utility areas provide flexibility and separation where required.
Vertical circulation is positioned centrally to efficiently connect both levels while maintaining privacy between public and private zones. The first floor is dedicated primarily to bedroom accommodation, with generous room proportions, integrated storage, and access to balconies that extend the living experience outward. The planning prioritises natural light penetration and cross-ventilation, enhancing comfort throughout the home.
The overall layout demonstrates a clear hierarchy of space, balancing openness with moments of enclosure to create varied spatial experiences. Functional efficiency is supported through logical adjacencies, circulation clarity, and practical family-oriented design decisions, ensuring the dwelling responds both to lifestyle needs and long-term usability.
